NTT DoCoMo

reported on Jan. 30, 2009, that its earnings for Q3 FY08 plunged 30.0% year-over-year as subscription slows due to lackluster economy. Net income for the quarter declined to Yen 91.05 billion from Yen 129.99 billion in Q3 FY07. On a per share basis, net earnings stood at Yen 2156.83 during the latest third quarter.

During Q3 FY08, operating revenue declined 7.2% to Yen 1.11 trillion from Yen 1.20 trillion a year ago. Wireless Services revenue decreased 6.4% to Yen 962.58 billion from Yen 1.03 trillion. In addition, Equipment sales dipped 11.9% to Yen 148.40 billion from Yen 168.53 billion. Total cellular service revenue dropped 7.5% to Yen 919.10 billion from Yen 994.00 billion, hurt by decline in sales of voice revenue. Revenue from voice plunged 16.9% to Yen 539.60 billion from Yen 649.60 billion, while revenue from packet communications increased 10.2% to Yen 379.50 billion from Yen 344.40 billion. The cost of services spiked 7.7% to Yen 219.35 billion from Yen 203.73 billion. Number of cellular subscriptions increased to 54.16 million. Aggregate ARPU (average monthly revenue per unit) of cellular services declined 8.9% to Yen 5,730 compared to the same quarter previous year. The number of handsets sold declined 2.01 million units to 4.51 million. Furthermore, minutes of usage (MOU) remained flat at 139. However, churn rate improved to 0.44% from 0.74% in Q3 FY07.

During the quarter under review, NTT DoCoMo announced that it will terminate its 2G mova service (including car phone and Pre-Call prepaid services). DoCoMo and

Fujitsu

planned to codevelop a mobile phone for Taiwanese market. The company agreed to merge with

KT Corp.

( KTC) in exchange for DCM's 10.72% stake in

KT Freetel

(KTF) for KT securities.

Looking forward to FY09, DCM expects net earnings of Yen 495.00 billion on operating revenues of Yen 4,597.00 billion.
