could announce a $1.2 billion sale of much of its equipment division to

Nokia Siemens Networks

as early as Monday, according to a published media report.

The report, published on

The Wall Street Journal's

Web site Sunday, cited anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

Earlier this week,

the Journal reported that the two companies were in talks

on such a sale.

Nokia Siemens is a joint venture of Finland's

Motorola is in the process of splitting into two companies -- one for networking equipment, the other for mobile phones and TV set-top boxes.

Shares of Motorola closed Friday down 22 cents at $7.50.
