Analyst firm the NPD Group recently reported that
Android had overtaken Research In Motion's (RIMM) BlackBerry OS
as the most popular U.S. smartphone operating system, thanks partly to Motorola.
NPD listed Motorola's Droid as the most popular Android phone, explaining that the Google OS accounted for 33% of all smartphones purchased during the second quarter.
Motorola expects to sell
12 to 14 million smartphones in 2010
, although the company's stock retreated with the broader tech sector on Wednesday.
The phone maker's shares fell 38 cents, or 4.73%, to $7.66 as the Nasdaq slipped 2.97%.
