More than 6,000 people lost jobs during Q3, say manufacturers

Average wage in industry rose 4% in real terms from Jan to NIS 9.1K

The Manufacturers Association estimates that 6,300 people lost their jobs in the third quarter.

The total workforce shrank by 1.7% in the third quarter, the association says, on top of a 1.4% contraction in the second quarter and 0.7% in the first quarter.

Compared with the parallel quarter of 2000, the total workforce shrank by 4.4% in the third quarter.

From the fourth quarter of 2000, a total of 16,800 jobs in industry have been terminated.

The average wage in industry rose by a real 3.9% from January to August 2001, the association found, to NIS 9,108 a month.
