Mercury Interactive Slides After Results, Warning

Mercury Interactive (MERQ) was down 7.4% in early trading. After Tuesday's close, the company reported third-quarter earnings excluding items of 11 cents per share, ahead of the Street's estimate of 10 cents but down from 18 cents a year ago.

The provider of software testing and monitoring products said it was hurt but the slowing economy and the effects were worsened after the Sept. 11 attacks.

For the fourth quarter, the company said it expects revenue to be $86 million to $90 million, with earnings of 11 cents to 13 cents a share, below the 13 cents in EPS and $101.27 million in revenue expected by analysts.
