reported a third-quarter pro forma loss of $14.3 million, or 39 cents a share, compared with year-ago earnings of $3.9 million, or 18 cents a share. Analysts were expecting a loss of around 65 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.

Revenue for the quarter was $67.3 million, up from $58.2 million in the year-ago period.

During the quarter, the semiconductor equipment manufacturer recorded non-cash charges of $127.7 million, or $3.45 a share, to recognize the impairment of goodwill, intangible assets and other long-lived assets as a result of deteriorated semiconductor market conditions.
