Chairman John Malone hasn't ruled out the possibility of a takeover of his company by

AT&T

In an interview with

Bloomberg

, Malone said the two companies, which develop packages of phone and television services, have close ties to DirecTV.

"Our relationship will continue to broaden and intensify," he told

Bloomberg

. "It may lead to some more ownership-oriented relationship, or it may not."

Some AT&T and Verizon customers already are serviced by DirecTV's pay-TV.

DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite-TV provider, simplified a potential takeover bid by agreeing to merge with Malone's Liberty Entertainment unit by the end of the year. The move cut Malone's voting stake in half, clearing the path for a potential acquisition,
