A terrorist opened fire on a crowded central Jerusalem street at 4:30 pm today, injuring both pedestrians and bus passengers.
29 injured have been transferred to area hospitals, six of whom are in critical condition.
Police on patrol in the vicinity shot and killed the terrorist. Police have now cleared the area, accepted practice in such instances, to search for possible explosives planted in the area or on the body of the terrorist.
The Jerusalem police report recent warnings of planned attacks in major city centers. These include a warning received just a short time before today's attack, which allowed the police and other security forces to spread extra personnel throughout the city and enabled the quick response to the shooting. Police arrived on the scene moments after the shooting spree began.
Rescue personnel continue to treat injured in the field and not all the injured have been transferred to area hospitals yet.
