JDSU (JDSU) said director Peter A. Guglielmi will retire from the board.

Guglielmi had been a member of the board of directors since May 1998. Guglielmi retired as finance chief of

in 2000, according to JDSU's Web site.

The Milpitas, Calif., company said in a regulatory filing that Guglielmi's retirement will take effect just before the 2006 annual meeting. The date of that meeting isn't listed in the filing or on JDSU's Web site.

JDSU, a maker of optical networking components, said Guglielmi's retirement is not because of any disagreement with the company on any matter related to operations, policies or practices. Guglielmi didn't furnish JDSU with a letter describing any disagreement or requesting that any matter be disclosed, the company said.

JDSU said the move cuts board membership to nine directors from 10.

Shares rose a nickel Wednesday to $2.56.
