JDS Uniphase (JDSU) was off 1.5% in preopen Island trading. After the close Thursday, the stock posted second-quarter earnings of 21 cents per share, beating the Street's estimate of 19 cents and the year-ago 19 cents. But the optical equipment maker said sales in the current quarter are weakening due to high customer inventory levels and a slowdown in capital spending. The stock fell sharply Thursday after saying its merger with SDL (SDLI) would be delayed at least until February. SDL was down 1.4% in today's preopen.
