plans to phase out all operations at its computer systems manufacturing plant in Puerto Rico by mid-2001.
The plant, a dedicated board making facility, has about 1,360 workers and produces motherboards for desktop PCs and network interface cards.
The chipmaker expects "no material financial impact" from the closure. Intel will continue to provide desktop motherboards and network interface cards to its customers using its other manufacturing operations.
Shares of Intel finished the regular
trading session at $31.38 and rose to $32.12 in after-hours
activity. Also today, the company reported
fourth-quarter earnings that were just slightly better than lowered expectations.
