are scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday, ostensibly to discuss an alliance in health care, according to media reports.
The Wall Street Journal
, citing a source with knowledge of the alleged plan, said GE CEO Jeff Immelt and Intel CEO Paul Otellini were scheduled to appear together at an event Thursday in New York.
In its 2008 annual report, GE said it has a $2 billion business in health care information technology, which includes partnerships to develop electronic patient records. It also is partnering with governments in Russia and Qatar to improve health care, ventures it says represent $1 billion in potential growth.
The company also has suggested it stands to benefit from the government's redoubled interest in health infrastructure.
