IBM is still examining Sun Microsystems' business as part of its due diligence process,
reports, citing a source with knowledge of the matter.
Reports of a merger of the two technology companies started last week. The deal is rumored to be worth around $6.5 billion, with IBM paying $10 or $11 a share for Sun Microsystems.
Neither party has issued a statement to say they are in talks,
Wall Street Journal
reported last week that a combination of the two companies would bolster IBM's heft on the Internet, in software and in finance and telecommunications markets. If the deal goes through it would be IBM's largest acquisition in its history.
An IBM spokesman declined to comment, and Sun wasn't immediately available, according to
Shares of Sun Microsystems closed Thursday at $8.20.
