said July sales are running below plan and second-quarter earnings will be worse than expected.
The company expects to earn 13 cents a share on sales of $92 million in the quarter, compared with analyst expectations of 15 cents a share.
For July, Hot Topic said same-store sales will fall 3% to 4% from a year ago. The company also predicted weak August sales and said it expects to earn 27 to 29 cents a share in the back-to-school third quarter.
Analysts were predicting earnings of 32 cents a share in the third quarter.
