said it retained its lead in worldwide notebook computer sales for the third consecutive quarter, with 17.3% of the market share in the second calendar quarter.
The company said the data was gathered by IDC Worldwide. The report states that H-P increased its notebook unit sales at a 48.1% pace from a year ago. The overall market for notebook PCs grew 22.4% year over year, the company said.
In the fiscal third quarter, H-P's notebook division was profitable, growing revenue 27% from last year.
H-P said the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, and Europe had year-over-year notebook PC sales growth of 57.1%. In the Middle East and Africa, notebook sales rose 63.1%. For the U.S., H-P holds the No. 2 position with 20.3% of the market, and it had 35% growth from last year.
Shares of H-P were recently gaining 16 cents, or 0.8%, to $20.09.
