Google Circling Video Start-Up: Report
NEW YORK (
) --
Google's
(GOOG) - Get Report
online video site
YouTube
is reportedly in talks to acquire private online television production company
Next New Networks
, according to the
New York Times
.
Rather than create content itself, Google has historically served as a platform for outside creators. Buying Next New would push the company in a new direction.
Next New Networks, which was launched in 2007, has produced popular Internet television shows like
Key of Awesome
and
Indy Mogul
.
|
In June, Next New Networks hit the one billion view mark, thanks to distribution through its partner network, which includes YouTube,
Hulu
, and
Yahoo!
(YHOO)
.
The company also produced YouTube's top two most-watched videos of 2010,
The Bed Intruder Song
and
Glitter Puke
, a parody of the singer Ke$ha.
Next New Networks has raised $26 million from investors including Spark Capital, Goldman Sachs and Velocity Interactive.
