The company said it lost $9.1 million, or 5 cents a share, in the period, excluding various items, and said it continues to believe it "saw the bottom during the first quarter ended July 31, 2001, and that our business prospects are improving."

The company's shares were down $1.93, or 15%, to $10.80 in preopen trading.
