CUPERTINO, Calif. (
) -- The FBI has opened an investigation into a possible security breach of
Web site that exposed the email addresses of thousands of
iPad owners, a report says.
"The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation," said Katherine Schweit, an FBI spokeswoman, the
Wall Street Journal
reports. Schweit said the FBI began the investigation Thursday but wouldn't comment on what the bureau is looking at, adding it was "very early in the investigation."
It was reported earlier this week by
that Apple and its iPad were hit by a huge security breach affecting more than 114,000 iPad accounts. The
left some pretty powerful people in the U.S. vulnerable to hacking and spam marketing.
An AT&T spokesman told
the issue "was escalated to the highest levels of the company and was corrected by Tuesday; and we have essentially turned off the feature that provided the e-mail addresses."
