The Internet service provider has about 3,000 employees. Those affected by the job cuts are mostly content-related employees of the
Web portal division, a spokeswoman said. The
divisions, which offer broadband Internet services, weren't affected.
Excite@Home is scheduled to release fourth-quarter earnings later this week. Analysts polled by
First Call/Thomson Financial
expect a loss of 9 cents a share. In the fourth quarter of 1999, the company broke even on a per share basis.
