Ericsson (ERICY) was up 5.9% in early afternoon after Reuters reported that the Swedish telecom equipment maker is in talks with Asian companies regarding its mobile-phone unit. A source told Reuters that a sale is not imminent and the talks could lead to a joint venture or other kind of partnership instead. Earlier today, Ericsson announced a deal with Telcel, the big Latin American cellular network, to deploy GSM/GPRS technology in Mexico.
