EBay  (EBAY) - Get Report , the retail and auction platform, hired a key product executive from Amazon.com (AMZN) - Get Report and elevated one of its tech leaders.

Pete Thompson was named chief product officer, while Mazen Rawashdeh becomes chief technology officer.

Both will be senior vice presidents reporting to eBay President and CEO Devin Wenig. They'll be based in San Jose, eBay's headquarters city.

Thompson, with two decades of experience in products and services, had been vice president of Alexa voice service at Amazon, the Seattle online retailing giant.

He also had been chief operating officer at TiVoand held executive positions at Microsoft, T-Mobile and other companies.

EBay said in a statement Monday that Thompson will focus on "simplifying an increasingly personalized and discovery-based shopping experience," while providing the site's merchants with tools and insight.

Rawashdeh for three years has been eBay's head of platform engineering. He will continue in that role while expanding his brief to include artificial intelligence, payment and risk engineering and other subjects.

He had previously worked with eBay in tech roles from 2003 to 2011 before joining Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report as vice president of infrastructure operation engineering.

Ebay shares were trading up 0.7% at $40.49.
