Corel Leaps on Surprise Profit

Corel (CORL) was up 18.6% in midafternoon trading.

After the close Wednesday, the software company, makers of WordPerfect and CorelDRAW, posted a second-quarter profit of 2 cents a share, beating analysts' expectations of a loss of 11 cents and up from the year-ago period's loss of 36 cents.

Sales were $36 million, nearly flat with the year-ago period's $36.6 million.
