The Ministry of Communications regretted to receive Cellcom's announcement it was backing out of the LMDS tender, a decision the ministry feels will inhibit the beginning of competition in the local calls market.

The ministry is aware of the fact the global crisis in capital markets in general and in communication markets in particular has reduced the demand for competition against Bezeq, currently a monopoly in the local calls market.

The ministry added it will continue to view the creation of such competition an important goal, and said that in a few weeks it will announce the establishment of a team that will determine the rules of such competition.
