Systems management software company BMC Software (BMC) was down 3% in early trading after the company said late Thursday it would cut about 6% of its workforce, or about 440 jobs, and take a $14 million charge.

The company also forecast fourth-quarter revenue between $412 million to $422 million, higher than the company's earlier projection. Earnings for the fourth quarter will be in a range between 23 and 25 cents a share, roughly in line with analysts' calls for 24 cents but down from 49 cents a year ago. The company is scheduled to post results April 24.
