Bezeq CEO predicts Israeli telecoms sector to shrink $2 billion by 2005

Also anticipates cellular and cable company mergers due to competition

"The scope of the Israeli communication market, NIS 20 billion, will decrease because of the competition in the market, and by 2005 will total 90% of its total today¿ Ilan Biran, CEO of Bezeq said at the Cisco Expo 2002 convention.

Biran added that the competition in the sector will lead to mergers between cellular and cable companies.

Roland Acra, vice president of core routing at Cisco Systems (Nasdaq:CSCO) said Cisco will continue to develop fast core routers and their various accompanying applications in Israel.

He said that in spite of the dire state of the economy, Cisco will continue to invest in Israel and to explore it in search of breakthrough technologies.
