The Bezeq board today approved the acquisition of a 3.5% stake in startup Personeta.

The Personeta platform enables phone companies to quickly and cheaply create and deploy advanced services over existing infrastructure. Its technology also supports voice services originating from diverse providers.

Bezeq said that Personeta is a leader in supplying advanced open-platform solutions that support the development of advanced services over incumbent and future networks.

Bezeq will be starting trial runs of the Personeta platform in January 2002.

Personeta was founded in 2000 by CEO Bibi Rosenbach, CTO Alon Lelcuk, and VP Engineering Michael Meller.

Lightspeed Ventures Partners (formerly Weiss, Peck and Greer) led its first financing round, of $3 million. Another backer is Sequoia Capital, which also provided some of Personeta's seed capital.
