Arris (ARRS) - Get ARRIS International Plc Report blew by targets with strong third-quarter numbers.

The Suwanee, Ga., cable networking gearmaker made $26.6 million, or 24 cents a share, up from 18 cents a share a year ago. Excluding one time items, pro forma profit was 27 cents a share, beating analysts' expectations for 24 cents, according to a Reuters Research tally.

Total sales for the quarter ended last month were $228.6 million, up from $220 million in the second quarter and well above $201 million last year. Analysts were looking for sales of $225.3 million

Gross margins narrowed slightly to 27.6% from 29% in the second quarter.

"Thanks to our customers and the outstanding efforts of our employees, this has been yet another outstanding quarter for us. I am very pleased with our financial and market results through the first three quarters of 2006," CEO Bob Stanzione said in a press release Wednesday.

Looking ahead, Arris says it expects fourth quarter sales of around $225 million. Analysts were expecting $222.8 million in sales for the current period.

The company's shares rose 32 cents, or 2.5%, to $13.20 in after-hours trading Wednesday.
