There has been widespread speculation that Apple would show off a smaller version of its popular iPad at the same time.

But the report said the company plans to wait until a second event, currently scheduled for October, to introduce the tablet, the report said.
The motivation for separating the two product debuts is to avoid having the smaller iPad grab attention from the new iPhone, the report said, citing the sources.
Shares of Apple closed Friday up 59 cents at $663.22.
