Apple's iPod Shuffle to Hit Stores Friday

The player will sell for $79.

new iPod shuffle will hit store shelves on Friday, the company announced Tuesday.

Apple shares tacked on 86 cents, or 1.1%, to $81.28 in recent trading.

The new shuffle, which is about half the size of the original, costs $79 and contains one gigabyte of flash memory, enough to store about 240 songs.

"With its ultra-compact design and built-in clip, the new iPod shuffle is the most wearable iPod ever," Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of worldwide iPod product marketing, said in a statement.

Joswiak said the new shuffle completes the company's array of iPods for the upcoming holiday season, and said "we hope it's going to be a huge hit."
