will recall about 128,000 rechargeable batteries for iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 computers, because an internal short can cause the battery cells to overheat and pose a fire hazard to consumers.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said on its Web site that the batteries are made by LG Chem of South Korea. Apple has received six reports worldwide of batteries overheating, including two reports in the U.S., the CPSC said.
The computers with the affected batteries were sold from October 2004 through May 2005, the CPSC said. The batteries also were sold separately.
Shares of Apple were up 2 cents to $37.57.
