NEW YORK (
) -- Allegations of labor abuse at
supplier factories in China aren't enough to keep readers of
from buying a new iPhone or iPad.
According to a recent poll, 78% of readers say reports that Apple suppliers like Foxconn knowingly hired underage workers and forced employees to work continuous shifts and extended overtime won't affect their decision to purchase Apple products.
Some 22% of readers, meanwhile, say that they were impacted by the reports and will think twice before buying electronics from Apple.
Many readers voiced their frustration about Apple being singled out for its labor practices.
"Love how the cherry pick Apple," said one commenter named Mike. "Like they are the only electronics and component company in the world. They may be the biggest but they are in a long line of other AMERICAN companies that use Fox as well."
Others acknowledged that while Apple isn't perfect, the company is doing its best to improve worker conditions.
"Most of the information for all of the recent Apple labor articles has come from AAPL itself," said LTMP, another commenter. "They aren't perfect (as their own audits show), but they are making a serious effort, and they are completely transparent about it."
