iPhone continues its penetration in Asia following an announcement from South Korea's telecommunications regulator that the iPhone has been given the OK to be sold in the country.

The iPhone joins a market dominated by

Samsung Electronics

,

LG Electronics

and many domestic handset makers. Apple's foray into Korea had been highly anticipated.

Apple had yet to acknowledge the announcement as of early Wednesday.

Last month,

China Unicom

(CHU) - Get Report

said it reached a three-year agreement to

sell the iPhone in China

, the world's most populous mobile phone market. Sales it China will begin in the fourth quarter.
