Amazon.com (AMZN) was up 25.5% in preopen Island trading after announcing that first-quarter revenue will exceed $695 million and its loss will be 22 cents per share. Both figures are better than analysts' estimates. The Thomson Financial/First Call forecast calls for revenue of $669.6 million and a loss of 30 cents.

The online retailer credited strong growth in sales of electronics.
