PARIS (TheStreet) -- Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) returned to profitability in the third quarter thanks to exposure to emerging markets.

Alcatel

said it swung to a third-quarter profit of €25 million ($35 million) from a year-ago loss of €182 million.

Revenue in the third quarter climbed 10.5% year over year and 6.8% sequentially to €4.1 billion, the company said.

Alcatel said it experienced "good growth" in India, China and Russia, "fueled by our recent contracts wins and better market conditions."

Alcatel also said it is maintaining its full-year outlook. Previously, the telecommunications equipment maker said it expects adjusted operating margins of 1% to 5% in 2010.

"Driven by the strong momentum of our product portfolio, we anticipate a significant sequential increase in our top line in the fourth quarter," Alcatel CEO Ben Verwaayen said in a statement.
