Tuesday set an alliance aimed at developing and marketing voice and Internet contact center solutions for midsized firms.

The companies said the Internet alliance will bundle universal queue, email routing, Web collaboration and chat capabilities from

Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories

, a subsidiary of Alcatel, with Siebel's email response and advance automation. The midmarket offering is planned to be generally available this fall. Financial details weren't disclosed.

Alcatel, Paris, builds telecom networks. San Mateo, Calif.-based Siebel specializes in customer relationship software that automates the sales and customer service operations of large corporations.

Shares of Alcatel were lately off 80 cents, or 1.98%, to $39.63 on the

New York Stock Exchange

, while Siebel was down $3.69, or 7.60%, to $44.88 in trading on the
