Aeroflex First-Quarter Loss Narrower than Expected

lost 1 cent per share in the first quarter, a slightly better-than-expected result, and the company raised its revenue guidance for the second quarter.

The Plainview, N.Y., maker of broadband test equipment said sales were $39.5 million in the first quarter, and should rise 10% to 15% above that in the current period. The company also expects to be profitable in the second quarter.

Aeroflex cited strength in its aerospace and defense business and said there are signs its fiber-optics business has reached an "inflection point."
