3Com (COMS) named R. Scott Murray president and chief executive, replacing Bruce Claflin, who earlier announced his retirement pending the hiring of a successor.
The Marlborough, Mass., networking gearmaker said Murray also assumes Claflin's position on the 3Com board and will become chairman of the company's joint venture in China, Huawei-3Com.
"After meeting with a number of highly qualified candidates, we found Scott extremely well-suited to lead 3Com into the future," said Eric Benhamou, chairman of 3Com. "His ability to drive operations, grow revenue and increase profitability will be critical in accelerating the execution of 3Com's strategy and creating shareholder value."
Murray was the CEO of Modus Media International, a global provider of supply chain management and hosted services.
