3Com (COMS) was down 2.3% in preopen Island trading. After Thursday's close, the network equipment maker warned that it expects fiscal fourth-quarter sales to fall about $100 million short of estimates.
The company also said it plans to drop its lines of consumer cable and DSL modems. 3Com said the moves are among the steps necessary to restore profitability. The company laid off 3,000 people in May, its third recent round of job cuts.
