Comcast Foundation Awarded $2.3 Million In 2017 To Pennsylvania Nonprofits

PITTSBURGH and PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Comcast Foundation announced today that it awarded more than $2.3 million in grants to 52 nonprofit organizations in Pennsylvania in 2017. The grants helped grow the impact of programs supported by the Comcast Foundation's mission to empower communities to thrive by providing access to technology, relevant digital skills and training, and inspiring volunteerism, service and leadership.

One of the leadership development programs the Foundation supports is Strong Women Strong Girls, a mentoring  program for girls from under-resourced communities in Pittsburgh. "With the help of dedicated community partners like Comcast, our organization is empowering the female community throughout the Pittsburgh region," said Dr. Jocelyn Horner, executive director. "Through structured, multi-generational mentoring, we help college women and elementary girls build knowledge and skills, form valuable mentor relationships, and find their inner strength to dream and do."

In Philadelphia, the Foundation provides support to Congreso de Latinos Unidos' Education and Workforce program, which provides youth and adult programs aimed at increasing academic and workplace success. "Comcast has been an amazing community partner to Congreso since 2004," said Carolina Cabrera DiGiorgio, Esq., President & CEO of Congreso. "The support from the Comcast Foundation this year alone will enable us to provide job readiness and digital literacy programming to about 150 young adults enrolled in Congreso's Education and Workforce initiatives. The impact of this support will strengthen their ability to compete in the 21 st century workforce and navigate their way through a society increasingly reliant upon the use of technology."

"Comcast is proud to award these grants to our partner organizations to connect and strengthen the communities we serve," said Jim D'Innocenzo, vice president of government, legislative and regulatory affairs for Ohio and Pennsylvania, Comcast's Northeast Division. "Thanks to the tireless and extremely important work of these nonprofit organizations, our region is a better place to call home."
