Google to Get Ahead of Airline Notifications With Google Flights
Customers are about to have more flight information sooner from Google.

Google (GOOGL) has always been one step ahead of the competition. Now it's looking to be one step ahead of the airlines, with Google Flights.

Google Flights is a new search engine the company rolled out designed to help travelers get information on delays as well as find cheap ticket prices. The technology uses machine learning algorithms and historical data to predict delays before the airlines announce them.

"Using historic flight status data, our machine learning algorithms can predict some delays even when this information isn't available from airlines yet -- and delays are only flagged when we're at least 80% confident in the prediction," the company said in a blog post.

Google has been aggressive in updating Google Flights. Just last month the company added price tracking and deals to the application, offering a direct challenge to industry leaders like Priceline (PCLN) and Kayak. Google Flights also has a hotel search feature.
