President Donald Trump has nominated a former Eli Lilly (LLY) executive as the next Health and Human Services secretary.

President Trump on Monday said he would nominate Alex Azar as the next HHS secretary, contending Azar would fight for reduced drug prices.

Happy to announce, I am nominating Alex Azar to be the next HHS Secretary. He will be a star for better healthcare and lower drug prices!

Azar brings experience from pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, where he worked for a decade, including five years serving as the company's president of its U.S. unit.

Azar has also served on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization and as the general counsel and deputy secretary for Health and Human Services under former President George W. Bush.
