Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos is once again the world's richest person.

Bezos' fortune skyrocketed after the company's earnings beat sent the stock soaring after-hours Thursday and during trading Friday.

An 8% gain for Amazon shares would add about $7 billion to Bezos' coffers, according to Forbes. Amazon shares were up 12.15% at noon on Friday.

Bezos had an overall net worth just south of $90 billion at the start of trading Friday while Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates, the richest person in the world, had a net worth of $90.1 billion, according to Forbes.

This would be the second time Bezos ascended to the top of the billionaire heap. However, Amazon experienced a sharp selloff just hours after he took the top spot, relegating him back to the doldrums of still being richer than the majority of people in the world combined.

Amazon reported in-line earnings of 52 cents per share on revenue of $43.7 billion in the third quarter, just ahead of Wall Street's $42.1 billion expectations.
