Data published on Thursday shows that Amazon.com (AMZN) is owning the smart speaker space.
An estimated 68% of all smart speaker devices sold in 2017 will operate on Amazon's Alexa platform, Strategy Analytics has found. Conversely, Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google Assistant will only account for over 20% of sales.
Moreover, the analytics firm found that fourth quarter 2017 sales of smart speakers will nearly eclipse 12 million units worldwide, bringing the full-year total to 24 million units.
Those poised to benefit the most from the boost in sales are key manufacturers of said devices including Amazon, Google and Chinese Internet giant Baidu (BIDU) .
But, "their collective share will fall to less than seventy percent by 2020 as they begin to increasingly leave hardware development to third-party manufacturers in order to concentrate on optimizing their virtual personal assistants," Strategy Analytics noted.
