Amazon.com (AMZN) announced on Wednesday that it intends to create over 2,000 new jobs in New York City over the next three years and open a new office in Manhattan in 2018.

The e-commerce giant already houses 1,800 employees in Manhattan and recently stated plans to hire 2,250 operations employees in a new Staten Island fulfillment center.

"Amazon's decision to expand in New York City is proof positive that the strong economic climate of this state, and New York's diverse workforce and talent, are helping to attract top-notch companies from around the world," Governor Cuomo said. "New York welcomes Amazon's latest investment and expansion in New York, as we support the growth of our strong business sector and continue to create quality, high-paying jobs in the Empire State."

"We're excited to expand our presence in New York - we have always found great talent here," said Paul Kotas, Amazon's SVP of Worldwide Advertising. "Last January we announced our plans to create 100,000 full-time, full-benefit jobs in the U.S. by mid-2018 - and we are on track to reach that goal."
