General Motors Co. (GM - Get Report) announced Friday that it has informed a small number of Chevy Bolt owners about a potential battery issue that could cause the loss of propulsion when driving.

The company said that fewer than 1% of the 10,000 vehicles sold to date are experiencing the problem. The company said that it would arrange for the servicing of the affected vehicles.

GM's Bolt is the first U.S. electric vehicle to offer 200 miles of driving per charge.

GM shares were up 0.52% to $35.69 in afternoon trading Friday.
