Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took to Facebook-owned (FB) Instagram early Wednesday to share the first photo of the SpaceX spacesuit the company plans to use for manned missions into the last frontier.

Musk wrote with the photo, "Worth noting that this actually work (not a mockup)," and was tested in double vacuum pressure like that in space. Musk said it wasn't easy balancing esthetics and function, but SpaceX managed to nail both.

The SpaceX spacesuit was made in-house, unlike Boeing Co's (BA) spacesuits that were developed with partner and spacesuit specialist David Clark Company. Musk's SpaceX has brought much of its design and manufacturing in-house to cut costs and control the supply chain.
