McDonald's Corp.'s (MCD - Get Report) Chinese arm issued a statement to its customers after a photo taken by a worker in Louisiana and posted on Twitter (TWTR - Get Report) that showed a moldy part from an ice cream maker went viral.

"We're paying attention to the information being reposted today online about U.S. ice cream machines," McDonald's China said in the statement. "In China, ice cream machines used at McDonald's restaurants are automatically disinfected every day at a set time to ensure food safety."
McDonald's shares were up 0.06% to $156.60 in early morning trading.
