Ford (F - Get Report) will shorten its usual practice of shutting down its Louisville, KY. plant for two weeks this summer due to what it said was record sales for its Escape and Lincoln MKC vehicles through May. Escape sales are up 6% over the previous year.
"The record sales for Ford Escape through May are being driven by strong demand from our retail customers. This is our strongest ever retail start for Escape, with retail sales up more than 6 percent versus this time last year," Ford President Raj Nair.
Ford sold nearly 130,000 Escape vehicles in the first five months of the year and another 11,161 luxury Lincoln MKC vehicles through May.
