Android founder Andy Rubin's new company, Essential, tweeted today that "something big" is coming on May 30 and the announcement is likely to be a new smartphone.

Rubin will be attending the Code Conference, which starts May 30 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and it is believed that he will make his announcement at the annual conference that addresses the impact of digital tech on our lives and businesses.

Rubin helped Alphabet's Google (GOOGL) unit launch the Android smartphone platform after the tech giant bought the company from Rubin in 2005. Keep an eye out on this one, Apple (AAPL) .
