Apple (AAPL) is said to be planning to upgrade its fleet of laptops as competition from Microsoft (MSFT) intensifies and iPad sales decline. Apple may make the announcement at an annual app developers conference early next month, sources told Bloomberg.
The tech giant is planning three new laptops. The MacBook Pro will get a faster Kaby Lake processor from Intel (INTC) . The company is also working on a new 12-inch MacBook with a faster Intel chip, and is considering updating its older 13-inch MacBook air.
The Mac offerings makes up only 11% of Apple's $216 billion in annual sales. The iPhone accounts for close to two-thirds of the total. But the Mac is the key to maintaining the business of loyal customers and the creative industries, Bloomberg added.
